Semi-Permanent Makeup and Aesthetics Horror Stories – How Not To Become a Real Life Halloween Character

With Halloween just around the corner, we thought we’d write a quick topical post about those semi-permanent makeup and aesthetics horror stories that crop up in the media from time-to-time, just so you can avoid ending up looking like something out of ‘The Walking Dead’!

Let’s be frank, most of us have seen those who walk around with over-inflated lips and odd-looking faces. Whilst this may work for some, it’s not our cup of tea. During consultations with our clients, we always encourage them to opt for as natural a look as possible.

Let’s first take a quick look at this story in the Daily Mail. It covers the plight of a few different women who ended up regretting their visit to a local beauty clinic. It ranges from liquids being sprayed in their eyes to blisters and permanent scarring on their skin – nasty stuff!

In the article, Dr Brad Mckay warns us against the potential and very real dangers of visiting bargain-basement clinics that cut corners and employ incompetent staff. The article goes on to look at a woman who visited a clinic to have her eyebrows, eyeliner and lipliner tattooed for a cheap as chips price and paid the price as a result. If you visit the link and scroll down the page, you’ll certainly see a few Halloween-worthy pics.

Aside from the more visual disasters, danger also lurks in the form of equipment that hasn’t been properly sterilised, which can lead to Hep B and C infections or, occasionally, something even worse.

It’s Important to consider contraindications

If this is something you hadn’t considered, we’ve previously written in some detail about a range of semi-permanent makeup contraindications that may prevent you from having certain beauty treatments. If you’re thinking of having any type of treatment at either our clinic or anywhere else, it’s still worth reading the post beforehand just to make yourself aware of the types of things that may prevent a reputable clinician from carrying out certain treatments on you.

The importance of consultations

On a final note, we can’t stress enough the importance of having a detailed consultation with a seasoned and knowledgeable professional prior to any treatment taking place. A consultation isn’t just about what you want to look like, it’s also a chance for us to find out if the procedure you’re looking for is suitable for you or if there are any medical reasons why we shouldn’t go ahead. It also affords you the opportunity to ask any pertinent questions that may be on your mind. If the answer to most of your questions is “..errr, I dunno”, run for the nearest door. After all, if you don’t, you might end up being the star attraction at the next Halloween party you attend!
