Fascinating Canterbury tales
Even the non-religious will probably know that Thomas Becket (a.k.a. Thomas à Becket) was murdered most brutally at Canterbury’s now-famous cathedral. The year was 1170. As a result, Canterbury became a pilgrimage location and was once one of the most well-known places in Europe.
Also, if you’ve heard of the collection of stories titled “Canterbury Tales”, the answer is yes, the whole affair inspired Geoffrey Chaucer to write them.
They are often considered to be Chaucer’s finest work – The Canterbury Tales is a collection of twenty-four stories about a group of pilgrims that were written between 1387 and 1400.
