Dermal Fillers for your lips, cheeks, neck and jawline

Dermal fillers (sometimes called hyaluronic acid fillers) are injected under the skin’s surface and are ideal for smoothing out wrinkles in the skin and replacing lost structures to the face due to ageing factors. They are commonly applied around the nose and mouth to fill in unwanted creases and folds, which is perfect if you’re looking to reduce the appearance of the nasolabial folds (sometimes called “bracket lines”) which run from the corner of the nose to the outside edges of the mouth. They are also used to create volume in the cheeks and are great for sculpting your cheekbones or filling out your lips.

Lip fillers and cheek fillers will plump up and smooth your skin, making you look and feel great. The brand we use contains hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance that’s already present in your body that not only attracts, but also retains moisture in your skin.

What are the benefits?

Dermal fillers are increasing in popularity and are the latest ‘go-to’ treatment for many celebrities and Hollywood stars. Sure, we all want to look and feel amazing so taking steps to retain that natural, glowing look of youth is an obvious choice. The great thing about dermal fillers is that the results are quite subtle so most people won’t even be aware that you’ve had the treatment. They may, however, make comments about how vibrant and glowing you look! In reality, most people don’t want to completely transform their appearance, so something that gently eases away those lines and attracts positive comments from your friends and family can also do wonders for your confidence and self-esteem too.

Do the injections hurt?

You may experience mild to moderate pain as the injections are taking place and you may experience a short-term burning sensation which should soon pass. Anaesthetic creams are always applied before each dermal filler treatment to minimise any pain experienced.

Anti -Wrinkle/ Botulinum Toxin Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections (also known as botulinum toxin injections) are slightly different insofar as they’re not designed to “fill out” the skin. Instead, these types of injections actually relax the muscles, helping to prevent the creases that cause the wrinkles in the first place. the most common area for this type of treatment tends to be in the forehead, frown and around the eye area. You may already be familiar with terms such as frown lines, laughter lines, crow’s feet, expression lines or even ‘turkey neck’, and anti-wrinkle injections are well suited to deal effectively with these.

How does it work?

The easiest way to describe the treatment is by comparing it to a shield that’s been erected between the brain and the muscles that have been treated. When we frown or smile, the brain sends signals to activate the muscles but botulinum puts a halt on the process and prevents this from happening. The end result reduces your expression lines and smooths out wrinkles, giving you a more youthful appearance without having to go under the surgeon’s knife. The initial effects are cumulative and you’ll notice your skin gradually becoming smoother, typically over a 2 week period. After this, you’ll be able to fully enjoy the benefits of your treatment.

Hyperhidrosis

Botulinum toxin injections aren’t just for those of us who want to look and feel younger. There are also practical benefits too. Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes the body to sweat excessively and sometimes unpredictably, typically in the armpit/underarm area. This can affect sufferers even when they are not physically active, even in cooler weather, so it can be both annoying and some will find this embarrassing and go as far as to not remove their jackets to hide the sweat patches visible on their clothes.

Anti-wrinkle injections should last between 3 and 6 months after which time you’ll notice the lines and wrinkles gradually begin to reappear. The good news is that your lines may not be quite as noticeable as before due to muscle shrinkage caused by inactivity.

Why not combine both treatments?

If you really want to go for that all out wow factor, why not consider having both treatments at once? The two compliment each other perfectly.

Whilst botulinum toxin injections tend to be used on the upper part of the face such as on the forehead and around the eyes, dermal fillers are predominantly used on the lower part of the face and around the neck area. Therefore, combining the two procedures can work really well for a complete overall look without the need for any surgery whatsoever.

What’s more, having botulinum toxin injections and dermal fillers together can also prolong the skin smoothing effect of the hyaluronic acid in the filler. This is because the filler tends to break down faster in facial areas with a lot of movement such as around the mouth. By using botulinum toxin first, the muscles will begin to relax and thus prolong the effects of the dermal filler.
